Ivan Down, 53, the fitness co-ordinator at East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife, Pocklington, has created a yearlong event named Challenge 53/53, in a bid both to challenge himself and to raise a large amount of money for charity in the coming year.
Ivan’s event will involve 53 demanding physical challenges in 53 weeks, in his 53rd year, and will raise money for the following charities: Bowel Cancer UK, Stroke Association, Scope, British Lung Foundation and The Army Benevolent Fund.
Ivan says: “For personal reasons, I hold all these charities close to my heart, and in previous years have succeeded in raising money for them all, through smaller annual physical challenges.”
Challenge 53/53 will include one ultra- marathon, nine marathons, an iron man distance triathlon, half marathons, long distance open water swims, long distance cycle challenges and a number of gym - based challenges.
The first physical challenge started on Friday 12 February with a marathon on the Concept II rowing machine at East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife.
Ivan added : “I will put information about all the events and the dates on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and a Just Giving page, click here to sponsor Ivan (opens an external website). All sponsorship will help immensely with my attempt to raise as much cash as possible to benefit these very worthy charities. I would like to thank people for their support in advance.”
There are only 10 events remaining, Please check out the just giving page above. A big thank you to everyone who has supported me during these challenges.
