Description

This course has been developed for those who are working with children and babies. It will be of particular interest to teachers, childminders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone responsible for youth organisations.

It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and/or babies, who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and attain a recognised qualification in first aid. In addition to that of the one-day course, many other childhood conditions and illnesses are included.

This course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted.

Duration

A 12-hour course consisting of theory and practical work.

Syllabus

A range of subjects is covered including:

• Responsibilities and reporting

• Resuscitation

• Fainting

• Assessment of the situation

• Head injuries

• Choking

• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

• Diabetes

• Fractures

• Infantile convulsions

• Foreign bodies

• Meningitis

• Control of bleeding and shock

• Anaphylaxis

• Burns

• Eye injuries

• Heat and cold

• Asthma

• Sickle cell anaemia

Certification

Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will assess each individual throughout the duration of the course.

This qualification is valid for three years.

Numbers

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.

Age Limit

Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment.

A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace for children and infants until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role. The certificate will expire as dated on the certificate, irrespective of age.
