NPLQ Lifeguarding

Lifeguards are an integral part of the staff at a swimming pool.

They keep an eye on everything happening from the poolside and are qualified to intervene and even save someone's life if they are in trouble.

For many, lifeguarding provides an excellent foundation for a career in the leisure industry - many pool managers began their professional careers as a lifeguard.

All of the NPLQ Lifeguarding courses we offer are awarded by the Royal Life Saving Society UK. For more information about the course, please check the RLSS website.

Candidates must be able to swim and attend every day.

Swim tests will be arranged before the start of the course:

  • 8 lengths; 4 on front and 4 on back
  • 2 lengths in 60 seconds
  • Tread water for 30 seconds and get out of the pool unaided
  • Collect the manikin off the bottom of the pool (deepest part)

Please arrive 15 minutes early each day of the course.
