Learn to swim with East Riding Leisure's STA Swim Academy

East Riding Leisure are certified East Riding Leisure Swim Academies' delivering the STA (Swimming Teachers' Association) International Learn to Swim Programme (ILSP) across their swimming lessons programme.

This nationally recognised scheme offers a fresh and innovative swim programme across our nine sites with pools, appealing to learners of all ages from baby /preschool lessons through to platinum awards for advanced swimming, junior lifeguard courses, adult swimming and disability swimming.

For information on disability sessions and lessons for those with additional needs or disabilities please contact your local East Riding Leisure centre swim coordinator who will be happy to discuss what is available.

Fun ways to learn and progress up through the levels

The programme is fun and exciting and encourages children and young people to progress through levels and achieve through their success tracker booklets - collecting colourful badges, stickers and certificates along the way.

With the use of fun characters such as Octonauts, as seen on Cbeebies, the scheme takes children and young people on an engaging swim journey series including Starfish, Octopus, Goldfish, Angelfish and Shark Series to name name a few.

The Junior Lifeguard series offers fun aquatic and lifesaving awards incorporating distance awards, and supporting awards (Diving, snorkelling, Sea scooter, personal survival skills, Competitive Starts and Turns)

Learning to swim is not just an important life-saving skill. It also helps:

  • improves strength, coordination and flexibility
  • develop social and communication skills
  • maintain heart and lung health
  • increases stamina and improve posture

In addition to this, your childs' development through the stages of the STA Learn To Swim Programme could lead to the opportunity for a career in swimming such as becoming a lifeguard or even a swim teacher amongst many other career possibilities.

Unlimited Swim Pass for all learners

All those who are signed up to swimming lessons qualify for FREE casual swimming for the duration of the lessons. Ask at reception for more details.

Easy Payment plans

Customers can opt for the easy payment plan direct debit scheme* which includes core badges from the ILSP (Core badges are shown above on the flow chart) or pay for a 10 week course up front (No badges included).

Child Swimming lessons (block of 10 lessons) £55

Both including free casual swimming for the duration of lessons

Waiting List

Children's names can be added to the waiting list for pre-school classes working through the Stanley awards from the age of 3 years, and Octopus 1 once in full-time education if children have no prior swimming ability.

Children wishing to access any of the other stages are advised to contact the centre to arrange a pre-assessment.

Every effort is made to place children in lessons within 10 weeks.
